The Only Way to Get from 'Here' to 'There'
For people who want more than insight—they want freedom.
I spent over 30 years as a licensed psychotherapist.
Each year, I took continuing education courses and trained in a wide range of modalities—cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, trauma therapy, somatic therapy, neuro-linguistic programming, EFT, Nonviolent Communication, and others. Every one of them offered something of value.
But they all shared one limitation:
They were grounded in objective language.
Even the most advanced therapeutic methods often rely on the assumption that when people speak—about the world, about themselves, about their feelings—they’re describing something fixed. Something real. Reality.
And yet, time and again, I saw how that assumption kept people stuck.
The only exception I’ve ever found is the S.A.G.E. process.
S.A.G.E. is built on a linguistic model (Percept) developed by our mentors, John and Joyce Weir, beginning in the 1960s. It starts from an entirely different premise: that all human experience is subjective—and that transformation begins not by fixing your story, but by seeing through the illusion that the meaning you made of your story is the same as fact.
So when I say S.A.G.E. is the only way I know to get from here to there, I understand how that might sound.
But it’s not exaggeration.
It’s a conclusion drawn from decades of study, practice, and lived experience.
Let me say it plainly:
S.A.G.E. is the only method I know that can get people from here to there.
And by here, I don’t just mean people who are visibly struggling. Here includes people who’ve done the work—people who are emotionally intelligent, high-functioning, and grounded.
And yet...
They confuse silence with safety.
Many people choose not to speak—not because they lack awareness, but because they fear disruption. That silence feels like keeping things safe, but it often comes at the cost of genuine connection and self-expression.
They confuse skill with honesty.
They’ve learned to communicate with polish and care, but that skill can mask avoidance. Sounding composed doesn’t always mean they’re expressing what’s true for them.
They confuse harmony with integrity.
They keep things smooth on the surface, but sometimes that harmony is bought at the cost of betraying their inner knowing. What looks like peace may actually be withholding that limits intimacy.
And these confusions show up in the details:
– They walk on eggshells in close relationships
– They avoid certain truths for the sake of harmony
– They feel a subtle discomfort they can’t quite name
– They quietly adapt to avoid conflict
– They speak with skill, but not always with honesty
– They feel “off,” but don’t know why—because, on the surface, they’re doing everything right
They’re not stuck in their past.
They’re stuck in a system of relating that hasn’t been questioned.
Where Is There?
Others, of course, are stuck in more overt ways—tangled in reactivity, dependent on external validation, constantly trying to reframe, regulate, or rise above their emotions.
This is the emotional treadmill of personal growth. You’re moving. You’re trying. But you’re not making the progress you wish for.
You’re not getting “there.”
There is where personal agency lives.
Where you experience a grounded sense of self—regardless of who you’re with.
Where emotions don’t hijack you because you know how to work with them.
Where relationships become fluid, honest, and clean—not performative or protective.
Where creativity and clarity abound—not because life is easy, but because you’ve stopped bracing against it.
S.A.G.E. gets you there.
And as bold as this sounds, I stand by it:
No other model I’ve found can make this shift—because no other model entirely dispels the illusion that keeps people stuck.
The Real Problem: The Illusion of Objectivity
Most therapeutic and self-development models—however well-intentioned—are grounded in objective language.
They describe emotional experiences as if they reflect external facts.
They reflect interpretations as if they’re accurate representations of reality.
They validate your truth while subtly reinforcing the belief that it is the truth.
You hear things like:
“She made you feel abandoned.”
“Your father didn’t see you.”
“You’re carrying trauma in your body.”
“That’s just your attachment style.”
Even therapists who are wise and compassionate often reflect their clients’ narratives back to them in language that makes those narratives feel more real, more fixed.
This isn’t malicious. It’s unconscious.
But that unconscious use of language—language rooted in objectivity—is what keeps people disempowered.
It keeps them trying to fix things—but using the wrong tools, the wrong language, the wrong fuel.
Like pouring gasoline into an electric vehicle, their efforts can’t take them where they want to go.*
It keeps them circling insight instead of living transformation.
The S.A.G.E. Difference
S.A.G.E. (Subjective Awareness and Genuine Expression) begins with a radical premise:
All human experience is subjective.
We don’t experience reality—we experience the meaning we make of it.
And we reinforce that meaning every time we speak.
That’s why language matters.
S.A.G.E. is not just a communication model—it’s a new psychological operating system that teaches you how to live and speak from a profound awareness of the subjective nature of all human experience.
It’s about more than changing your thoughts.
It’s about changing the orientation you speak from.
It’s the shift from describing life as if it’s happening to you,
to expressing your experience as something you are shaping.
This isn’t just a shift in mindset.
It’s a functional shift in how you perceive and speak your experience.
A psychological operating system we call OS3.
Why Most People Stay Stuck in OS2
Most of us were raised inside a different operating system, what we call OS2—a default system of consciousness where:
– Interpretations are confused with facts
– Emotions are treated as reactions rather than creations
– Language reflects blame, projection, and helplessness
OS2 is not a belief system.
It’s a pattern of speech and perception so embedded in our culture that most people don’t even realize they’re inside it.
And because of that, even the most advanced forms of therapy or personal growth tend to reinforce OS2.
They may help people cope, or grow, or feel seen—but the illusion remains intact.
S.A.G.E. Introduces OS3
OS3 is based on a profound awareness of the subjective nature of all human experience—and the ability to express it subjectively.
In this system:
– You don’t treat interpretations as facts
– You don’t project your emotions onto others
– You don’t confuse clarity with certainty
– And you don’t use language to reinforce illusions
Instead of treating your interpretations as truth, you become conscious of how you create meaning.
Instead of being unconsciously shaped by your past and surroundings, you begin shaping your experience in real time.
This is the shift that changes everything.
Is S.A.G.E. a Therapeutic Tool? Yes—but It’s More
S.A.G.E. is deeply effective in one-on-one work, in groups, and in everyday life.
But it’s not just a modality or technique.
It’s a metatherapeutic process—it enhances nearly every form of therapy by exposing and replacing the illusions they may unconsciously reinforce.
And while it may feel like a massive reframe, it’s not just about changing thoughts.
It’s about speaking from an entirely different orientation.
S.A.G.E. gives people a way to break free of a dysfunctional system—so that you recognize the subjective nature of all your experiences, express emotions maturely, and use language to create clarity, not false certainty.
Why This Matters
You can’t live a free and empowered life inside a system that continually confuses perception with truth.
You can’t experience agency if your language keeps reinforcing helplessness.
You can’t experience clarity while treating your interpretations as truth.
You can’t experience connection if your nervous system is tangled up in someone else’s story.
S.A.G.E. shows you how to exit that system.
You don’t just gain insight—you dismantle the illusion that’s been shaping your experience.
And when you do, you don’t just feel better.
You live better.
From the inside out.
* Thanks for the great metaphor, Kevin!

I strike myself with...the enormity of this. Imagine if someone figured out cold fusion. Or some infinite energy source. One that could immediately cease the use of fossil fuels. I'm not sure many people would believe it. And converting to this new energy source and away from fossil fuels would likely implode our current economic system. THIS FEELS SIMILAR. To actually accept that the world we live in is ONLY...the world WE live in, and our "reality" is subjective...completely implodes the stories we've built as fact. Can we handle it? It feels like either people will sense gargantuan, monumental freedom, OR...they'll reject this with all their might. Though I just don't now how it can be refuted. It's easy to differentiate between objective and subjective, and easy to conceive of using subjective language to bring it all to life. But getting my brain around it has been...a long process for me. Like going from regular shoes with arch support and cushion and heel lift, to minimalist shoes with almost nothing. Even though it quickly cured all my musculoskeletal problems, it took my feet SO long to adjust. So strengthen. To support themselves (as I choose to believe they were made to). Well. I will devote myself to helping myself, and everyone I can, with this concept. Thank you, Jake & Hannah
allows us to stay in relationship with ourselves while still showing up fully in the world. That’s the difference. That’s the freedom
